Surf-adjacent musical artist Ariel Pink quit her label for attending the Trump rally outside the White House: “Save your friends, cancel me now, and report me before they come looking for you!”

Carnage.

I first became aware of Ariel Pink thanks to the world’s largest surf photo editor Peter Taras (Transworld, Surfing, Surfer) who I think was / is a fan.

Pink’s music described as “lo-fi and home recorded” proved to be influential for many independent musicians from the late 2000s onwards and he is frequently cited as “the godfather of the hypnagogic pop and chillwave movements” . He currently pockets over 1,000,000 monthly plays on Spotify and his most popular album to date is Haunted Graffiti.

Not really my style but very cool nonetheless.

Regardless, Pink was recently in Washington DC for the now famous rally-turned-Capitol-tour and was later dropped by her label Mexican Summer, which features numerous surf bands and collaborates with surf shops.

According to New York Post:

Label Mexican Summer made the announcement Friday amid a backlash after “Baby” bragged about supporting Trump at Wednesday’s rally in Washington, DC that preceded the riots.

“Due to recent events, Mexican Summer and her team have decided to end our working relationship with Ariel Rosenberg aka Ariel Pink,” the New York label tweeted Friday.

The singer had openly anticipated a backlash, even though he insisted he was sleeping when rioters stormed the Capitol.

“I attended the rally on the White House lawn and came back to the hotel and took a nap. case closed, “he tweeted Thursday of his support for the rally alongside fellow freelance musician John Maus, insisting he was against” violent confrontation or riots. “

“Save your friends, cancel me now and report me before they come looking for you,” he tweeted of his reaction on Thursday – also saying, “Vote Trump”.

Would you be sad to be canceled after sleeping during the most exciting part of what you were canceled for?

I know sentences aren’t meant to end with a preposition, but “for which you got canceled” reads weird and stuffy.

Well, first, they came in for the godfather of the hypnagogic and chillwave pop movements, and I didn’t speak because I was more of a club beat with arpeggios, riffs and vocal fades an little bro.

Etc.
